Movie Making on the Web

I have a Lead Teacher day coming up focusing on Movie Making and I am looking for movie making on the web using things like Animoto to compliment the straight ‘how to’s’ using iMovie or Moviemaker. This one is a great find- from National Geographic– you quickly select your film clips, accompanying sound, music and caption and drag them onto the timeline and voila! A movie that is there for retrieving using a code (Here’s my great effort- 992811893) – a great way for children to get the idea of dropping things into a timeline. You could do all sorts with this one- sorting, classifying, researching, just having fun.

Here’s what I have so far!

Sir Ken Robinson’s Video on Creativity- an excellent starter/motivator for the day.

Do you know of any other resources for the Movie Making Day that we could add?

  1. I would definitely include Alan Levine’s 50 ways to tell a story as it is the most comprehensive demonstration of how to use different web tools to tell a story. In terms of online video editing I personally found Jumpcut had less issues than Motion box. Good luck with your Movie Day :). Take the time to check out Alan’s wiki as his other resources are also excellent e.g web gems

  2. Hi Allanah

Here’s one or two reources I have either used or intend to try to use in the future:

Asterpix: make your online videos interactive by adding hotspots and annotations. Quite nifty.
    http://www.asterpix.com/

Plotbot: screenplay writing software. signed up to it but not used. Looks interesting though. http://www.plotbot.com/writers/chuffin

Free Autocue: free online autocue service. Ace. http://www.cueprompter.com/

Kaltura: online video collaboration. Sounds really interesting. http://www.kaltura.com/

CBBC Me an my Movie: some film making resources from the bbc. http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/meandmymovie/

    Hope you find these useful.

  3. Great resource Allanah, some I have not tried before so I will give them a go.
I think it should be ‘vixy.net’ – I use it all the time, it’s a great site.
Do you know of one where I can upload audio clips and they will play directly in a blog or on a webpage without going back to the source. I want to play just single clips so Podomatic is no good, and I can’t seem to get odeo to work that well on my mac. Not sure if it’s a mac problem or a firewall problem.

  4. I upload my audio to Podomatic like usual and then use the Firefoc plug-in called “UNPLUG” to retrieve the media alone and then put a little html code around it to play inside Blogger.

Here is the ‘how to’ that I wrote a while back…

Here’s how it looks in Blogger

Write the same code to embed movies

Here’s what a movie looks like.

    Hope that helps.

  5. Strictly speaking uploading your audio into your post (using the same procedure as you would an photo) would be the easiest and fastest method. Possibly the only reason you wouldn’t choose this option might be podcast sizes quickly add up in size – so could use up your storage space if not careful. However if you are only occasionally adding audio to your blog I would use this method – making sure that I minimise where possible the file size.

If storage is an issue than I would use Internet Archive – here are my notes for how to store on their site for creating a slidecast. Instead of a slide cast you grab the location of the audio file and add the URL to your Embed Media button.

I’ve suggested previously to podomatic that they need to create a player for single files for exactly this reason.
